The proposal was prepared for Syaza Hotels as part of wider Mandalika Master plan initiated by Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and is located in the southern part of Lombok. The hotel brief calls for a special approach in overall planning to achieve the operator’s aim of venturing into halal resort market which is very much in demand in this region.
To cater for wider target groups, the master plan includes 2 different types of hotel. The northern part of the site fronting the ocean is planned for Syaza Resort with 100 luxury villas while the northern part is for an upscale hotel (Mysk Hotel) with 200 rooms and a space allocation for future expansion together with supporting facilities.
Inspired by the uniqueness of traditional Lombok architecture and its local context, the master plan is designed to emulate the typology of traditional Sasak Village which is very organic in nature. Other traditional design aspects such as lumbung padi and the use of thatch materials are the main architectural features incorporated in this proposal.
