Libya has launched one of Africa’s most ambitious infrastructure projects with the construction of a new Benghazi International Airport, a $1.3 billion venture slated for completion by 2026. Covering 24 square kilometers, the facility is built to serve up to 15 million passengers per year and is equipped to handle the Airbus A380, the largest commercial aircraft in the world. The main terminal will encompass 125,000 square meters and will be complemented by a VIP terminal, a dedicated cargo center, and a 3.8-kilometer runway—the longest in North Africa. The new airport is being delivered by Libya’s National Development Agency in partnership with Global Builders Company, a subsidiary of Terminals Holding based in Abu Dhabi.
