PROJECTS > Commercial > Corporate Headquarters

A national corporation has launched a plan to develop a new headquarters for its Terengganu state branch. A design competition was called out to search for the best architectural package for a flagship commercial centre, to be envisioned as a new architectural landmark for Kuala Terengganu.

Located in the Kuala Terengganu City Centre (KTCC), the proposed site is an integral component of KTCC, facing the man-made breakwater bay of South China Sea. It is immediately fronting the long strip of promenade park and a neighbouring pocket park. The site is also located nearby the latest iconic structure of the city, the KT Drawbridge and bordered by an apartment and shopping mall.

The 12-storey structure will be mainly functioned as an office building. Nevertheless, fruiting its prime position near the beach promenade, a plethora of public-access spaces will be provided, such as cafeteria, kindergarten, and shops, as well as semi-public areas of theatrette and pre-function area. A board flight of staircase with staggered levels provides a different viewing point from ground to upper level, as part of the major public realm near the beach promenade.

Inspired by a traditional boat called kolek that is distinguished by its expressive prow, this element alludes to the building cuboid form and its angular sections. Whilst the façade design exemplifying the intricate weaving patterns of songket, a traditional fabric of Terengganu. A similar pattern is also proposed in the interior of theaterette and pre-function area.
