The most awaited annual architectural design conference in Malaysia, the DATUM:KL Conference, is back again after two years of online and hybrid versions. The conference was organised concurrently with the ARCHIDEX Exhibition and KL Architecture Festival (KLAF) at KL Convention Centre. The festival was an ideal avenue for all practising architects and building professionals to converge and exchange ideas and thoughts on the au courant architectural feat and building technology in the industry.

As always, NRY Architects has been sending its architects to attend this conference as part of the enrichment programme for the staff. This year, around 16 architects from NRY attended a two-day conference that involved almost 2,000 architectural professionals from around the country. With the theme Mindshaping the Future, the conference featured 10 speakers who shared their thoughts and experience in the different facets of architecture and design, from local and abroad.

Among the featured speakers were Arief Rabeik, the prominent advocate and activist of bamboo from Indonesia, as well as a Vietnamese architect who has extensively worked with bamboo in his designs, Vo Trong Nghia. The conference was launched by the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah, who has shared Kuala Lumpur’s future plan of becoming a sustainable, resilient and inclusive city for all. At the end of the event, a lucky draw was held, and it was truly a memorable event for one of our architects, Wayne Tan as he was selected as one of the lucky prize winners!
