As the new year 2021 unfolds amid the pandemic beleaguered our world, many new norms have practically become our daily practice. In view of this, as per in line with the SOPs imposed and implemented by the government, the Architecture Department of Kulliyyah of Architecture and Environmental Design (KAED), the International Islamic University Malaysia (UIAM) has taken a proactive approach by introducing an online critique session for the third year Architecture students.

Since the enforcement of the Movement Control Order (MCO), many tutorials and classes have been held in online mode, including the design crit session for the studio-based course. The Architectural Design 5 studio course requires the students to design a spiritual centre in an urban setting. The sanctuary centre also includes a number of facilities including rest area, cafeteria, surau and green area.

NRY Architects’ participation in this online crit session is part of our CSR activities for this year. The session has been divided into 13 sessions with around two external assessors in each session for approximately 60 students. The crit session began with a briefing slot for all assessors that also saw the participation of other architectural practitioners from private and public sectors.

To all architectural students in UIAM and other institutions, may your studies and learning process doing well amidst this outbreak that we are facing now. Good luck with this assessment and may all of you achieve full colour upon graduation soon.
