UTAR’s Crit Session on Bamboo Architecture

September 20, 2022 Activities, Announcement 0

NRY Architects, through our Senior BIM Architect, Ar. Ihsan Rahim was once again invited as an external crit assessor. For this time, Ar. Ihsan was invited by the Department of Architecture & Sustainable Design, under the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) located in Sg Long, Kajang, Selangor.

The first-year students were tasked with designing a bamboo nature centre, which happened to be Ar. Ihsan’s expertise in bamboo architecture. Around 40 students were involved and further divided into several groups of 5 students.

The bamboo nature centre design is aimed as a nature experience centre for visitors as an embarking point for outdoor activities as well as an educational centre for various nature-based workshops. All students have shown their creativity in harnessing the bamboo material through the small-scale models as the bamboo materials were moulded and crafted creatively to achieve the design objectives.

Through this crit session, Ar. Ihsan has shared his comments and thoughts on bamboo design and architecture, as it surely has given valuable inputs to the students themselves in exploring bamboo architecture.
